Okay, okay — let me rephrase: “Let’s slow down carbon build-up!”
⁣
Modern direct-injection engines deliver great throttle response and improved fuel economy, but one trade-off is carbon build-up on the intake valves. Because fuel is injected directly into the cylinder (instead of over the valves like in port-injection engines), there’s nothing to wash away the oil vapors and blow-by that stick to the intake valves over time.
⁣
One popular way to reduce this is installing an oil catch can. It helps trap oil mist, moisture, and other contaminants from the PCV system before they get routed back into the intake, which can slow down the rate of carbon accumulation.
⁣
Not a total cure — but definitely a helpful preventative step.
